Abstract:

This is an implementation of the Wireless LAN Intrusion Detection System (WIDS ) using clock-skews as a fingerprinting property as suggested by Jana-Kasera [1]. Our objective is to detect the presence of a fake access point (AP) in a Wireless LAN (WLAN). Use of clock -skew enables us to effectively detect Medium Access Control (MAC) Address spoofing. The principle used in this project is that clock s k e w s remain consistent over time for the same AP but vary significantly across AP’s. We have also tried to explore probable points of failure and implemented algorithms to overcome these problems. Advantage of this implementation is that fake AP can be detected very quickly as WLAN Intrusion Detection System needs only 100 -200 packets in most cases.
